On the momentous occasion of his 91st birthday, The Recording Academy, Producers & Engineers Wing, and Yamaha’s Pro Audio Division presented A Salute To Rupert Neve to honor the Technical GRAMMY winner’s career. Multi GRAMMY nominee Alan Parsons and multi GRAMMY winner Geoff Emerick joined the celebration in Austin, Texas to share their admiration and respect for their longtime friend and Texas resident, Rupert Neve.

The luncheon featured a grand entrance into the ballroom with wife, Evelyn Neve, and a standing ovation as Alan Parson’s “Time” punctuated the moment. In addition to Parsons’ and Emerick’s remarks, Director of the Texas Music Office Brendon Anthony; General Manager Josh Thomas with Rupert Neve Designs; Director of Marketing for Yamaha’s Pro Audio Division Marc Lopez; and Texas Chapter P&E Wing Committee Chair Tre Nagella gave their praises to Rupert throughout the event. Admirers who couldn’t be in attendance but sent their birthday wishes were shown on the big screen and included GRAMMY winner Jimmy Jam, GRAMMY winner Nile Rogers, GRAMMY-winning engineer Ed Cherney and producers John McBride and Jacquire King.

The event concluded with a happy birthday celebration and Rupert cutting into his cake—an outstanding replica of his 5088 Neve Console.

A letter from Neil Portnow was included in the program:

I had a chance to meet and speak with him one on one at the AES convention in NYC. He is the most charming and engaging person you would ever want to meet. He talked to me on and on for an hour or more, about the invention of equilization and the BBC... an amazing man... Happy Birthday to the father of EQ.
