In conjunction with the celebration of its 50th anniversary and the passing of the “Georgia Music Investment Act,” the Atlanta Chapter hosted its Annual Membership Celebration on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta, GA. Over 400 Georgia Music Partners, legislators and Recording Academy members were in attendance. Guests started to arrive around 7 p.m. While they mingled and enjoyed refreshments, a string quartet from the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra played melodious classical tunes at the lobby. At 8:30 p.m., the celebration commenced with opening speeches by Sr. Executive Director, Michele Caplinger and South Region Director, Susan Stewart. They introduced highlights of recent GRAMMY events and announced the victory of the “Georgia Music Investment Act,” receiving great applause from the audience. Senator Jeff Mullis and Representive Amy Carter congratulated the Chapter and GMP on their legislative victory and Chairman, John Reaves gave a Proclamation to both the Chapter and GMP. The rest of the night featured electrifying performances by B.o.B., Hero the Band, Russ, and The Van Lears. The artists represented a variety of genres, such as hip hop, rock, and country, thus showcasing the vibrancy of the Atlanta music scene. The Atlanta Chapter thanks Georgia Music Partners, SESAC, City National Bank, Sean O’Keefe Events, and Crossover Entertainment Group for their constant support, as well as Doraku, Qing Mu, Red Pepper Taqueria and Sweet Cheats for the delicious food they provided at the celebration.
