Meet the Board: Stump Mahoney
James "Stump" Mahoney the Executive Producer/Director of Music at FCB Global. I started playing, writing and recording original music since the mid 80’s in local punk/post-punk bands. During the late 90’s and 2000’s I was in an indie touring band where I was the primary singer/songwriter and guitarist. I had played throughout the US and Canada, releasing multiple records and licensing our songs for movies and TV shows. Currently, I work as the director of music/music producer as the ad agency FCB in Chicago.
What was your first live music experience?
The first time I ever saw a band play was in a neighborhood park on the Southwest side of Chicago. It was a cover band playing 70’s rock covers and I loved it! The first show I saw in a proper venue was to see the band Off Broadway!
What is your favorite thing about the Chicago music scene?
The diversity of talent. From the flourishing Hip-hop scene to the jazz scene.
What is your favorite GRAMMY moment?
When I was first introduced to the band Arrested Development for winning best new group and best performance for the song “Tennessee”.
Why did you choose your profession?
I simply loved music so much that the evolution from being a music fan to being a performer was the trajectory that seemed to be inevitable. Despite having horrible stage freight.
What are your 2 favorite albums?
The Replacements “Let It Be”
The Clash “London Calling"
