On March 24, The Recording Academy and MusiCares brought together musicians and industry professionals to discuss substance misuse and maintaining wellness in the dance music community. The event was held at Gibson Showroom during Miami Music Week and at the start of Ultra Music Festival, which hosts some of the biggest artists in the electronic music genre.

Doors opened to a reception featuring complimentary custom earplug fittings and music by DJ Armando Segui. The conversation began with Harold Owens (Sr. Director, MusiCares/MAP Fund), who interviewed Daniel Disaster of HXV (Heroes X Villains). Daniel shared his battle with addiction and gave advice for maintaining a healthy lifestyle on the road. As a music producer and artist, he was able to give insight on how drug use plays a role in the industry as a creator, business professional, or consumer.

MusiCares provides multiple addiction recovery resources including access to treatment. Daniel discussed the support MusiCares provides, which have helped his friends in the industry, and how important it is to create an open conversation about addiction.
