On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, GRAMMY U, in partnership with the Morehouse School of Music, hosted a special edition of GRAMMY U Off The Record at the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center with two of the three founding members of Culture Republic, Chaka Zulu (Co-Founder Disturbing tha Peace & manager of Ludacris), and Bernard Parks Jr. (Manager, Goodie Mob, Organized Noize, The Dungeon Family). Culture Republic is a professional business model that combines music, business and technology, while focusing on the culture of its targeted demographic.  Al “Butter” McLean, Sr. VP of Kobalt Music Publishing moderated the event, and began with a video which showcased what Culture Republic’s mission is and then introduced the panelists. Zulu and Parks gave us an inside look at what they do on a day to day basis and why the three music industry powerhouses decided to come together to create this entity. Zulu, who got his start in radio, talked about how honest and hardworking you must be to make it in the music industry. Parks shared his personal stories of how he worked his way to the top, never working for anyone other than himself, a real feat. They both were in consensus that the music business industry is an industry that you must put in hard work and you never stop.  During the Q&A session, Zulu and Parks were open and honest about their thoughts, which the students appreciated. To end the night, we had performances by Professor of Trumpet, Morehouse and jazz trumpeter, Melvin Jones, Morehouse students, Golden Shades and up and coming artist, Keierica Howard a Clark Atlanta University Alum.
