Florida – GRAMMY U SoundChecks With Deftones

On Friday, June 23rd, a handful of GRAMMY U students were invited to Bayfront Amphitheater Park in Miami for GRAMMY U SoundChecks with Deftones.

They day began as students were brought into the venue to see the band sound check before their concert. They sat front and center to see the band casually perform a few of their songs. Afterward, two of the band members (drummer Abe Cunningham and keyboardist/turntablist Frank Delgado) sat down and answered some questions from the students. When asked about collaboration and how the band has been together for so long Abe said, “It’s hard sometimes, but we all have a common goal.” He also said that their friendship was a major reason for their longevity as a band.
Another student asked when they realized they had “made it” as a band and Abe and Frank agreed they never had that moment. They said “It was a slow process. It started out performing in one city to the next, then the next state, and eventually the next country and continent.”
After the Q&A ended, Frank and Abe took a group photo with the GU students, thanked them for coming, and headed backstage to prepare for their show.
