Florida - GRAMMY U Meet The Board
By: Janette Becerra / GRAMMY U Florida Student Representative
On April 5, GRAMMY U members were invited to The University of Miami for the opportunity to network with some of The Recording Academy Florida Chapter’s Board members. Seven Board members came to speak to the students: Chad Bernstein (Co-Founder and CEO of GOGO -Guitars Over Guns), Doug Emery (Producer/Arranger/Instrumentalist), Greg “Stryke” Chin (Recording artist/Producer/DJ/Avid Pro Audio Specialist), Jorge Mejia (President of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Latin America and U.S. Latin), Lauren “Lolo” Reskin (Co-founder of Sweat Records, DJ), Marianne Mijares (Director of Events at the University of Miami Frost School of Music), and Veronica “Milcho” Milchorena (Video Artist/Music Video & TV Director).
Around 2 pm, The University of Miami’s Student Activities Center filled up with GRAMMY U students from all over Florida. Students came from areas like Tampa, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami. They enjoyed complimentary pizza as they began to network with one another. Once the students had settled in, introductions began. GRAMMY U Rep, Janette Becerra, introduced the Board members first, followed by the Florida Chapter staff and campus ambassadors that were in attendance. The event began with an icebreaker where 4-5 students would be at each board member’s high top to get to know one another and have a chance for quick questions. Every 10 minutes, the students would move on to the next table. Once the 70 minutes were over, students had the chance to stick around and network with board members they were specifically interested in. Overall, GRAMMY U members had the chance to gain industry knowledge, get their questions answered, and build their network. Lastly, students were given the opportunity to follow the board members on social media.
