GRAMMY U Texas Member Austin Pierce In Action
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I’ve been playing drums/percussion since the age of 10, and I currently teach part-time at the Frisco School of Music. I greatly admire Todd Sucherman of Styx for his versatility in the studio, Avishai Cohen for his compositions, Max Martin for his uncanny ability to write chart-topping hit after chart-topping hit, and of course my mentors at UNT, Ed Soph and José Aponté. My career goals are to continue to perform and record with bands of various genres spanning jazz to metal.
How did you discover GRAMMY U, and how has it helped you further your career goals?
I discovered Grammy U through an email sent by Dr. John Murphy, UNT’s Jazz Studies Division Chair, that said it was a great music business opportunity. I read about the benefits members received and immediately thought it would be a worthwhile investment. Through my Texas Chapter Representative, Karan Mahendroo, I was given an opportunity to showcase one of my favorite bands, which will ultimately help me towards my goal of playing with a variety of musicians.

I am a big fan of Star Wars and The Walking Dead. I own a Labrador Retriever named Beauregard. When we’re not playing the blues, the members of In Layman Terms like to compete against each other in Mario Kart. I love my friends and family and owe them many thanks for all their support.
