Los Angeles - GRAMMY U MasterClass With Greg Kurstin
By: David Brik / GRAMMY U Los Angeles Student Representative
On Thursday, October 12, 2017 a select group of GRAMMY U students had the incredible opportunity of attending a MasterClass at EastWest Studios with the one and only Greg Kurstin, a 10 time GRAMMY-nominated record producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has won four GRAMMY Awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Producer of the Year.
The first part of the event was composed of a Q&A with the producer himself who talked openly about his work. Greg touched upon many topics including his path to success, the techniques he uses in the studio and how he works with different types of artists.
Then we proceeded to the critique section of the MasterClass, during which Greg listened to the songs of a few GRAMMY U members in order to provide feedback. Greg provided constructive criticism to the songs of the following students: Shante Simpson, John Cunningham, Natalie Kalamdaryan, Joshua Dreon, Jesse Munsat and Dean Hattab.
Ultimately, students left the room with a better understanding of what it’s like to be a top producer in the music industry and how to achieve your dreams. Thanks to Greg Kurstin and his entire team for being such gracious hosts and for helping inspire GRAMMY U members to reach their full potential!
