Author: David Brik, GRAMMY U Los Angeles Representative.
College students definitely lit up the GRAMMY U Rock the Mic stage on April 27, 2017 at the Ivar Theater! The night started out with an exclusive pre-show reception sponsored by Chipotle, where members got the chance to mingle and meet students from many different schools around LA. Attendees were able to learn more about GRAMMY U, all while picking up some free swag and enjoying delicious food such as Chipotle’s signature guacamole.
Then, the performance competition officially kicked off with a special appearance by the night’s judges, Joel Madden and Evan Bogart, who wished good luck to the finalists and talked about what they are looking for in today’s artists. Four incredible acts took the stage during Rock the Mic: Kira Morrison, Celeste Butler, Skin and Bones and Man Made Time. Each college student brought a different vibe and sound to the room during their 20 minute sets.
Ultimately, Joel Madden and Evan Bogart crowned Americana duo – Skin and Bones – as the winners of GRAMMY U Rock the Mic 2017! As the winners of the night, Skin and Bones walked home with the Grand Prize, which included IK Multimedia’s Total Studio Max Bundle (worth more than $1,000), IK Multimedia’s iRig Mic HD, House of Marley’s Buffalo Soldier Headphones, as well as various Bob Marley-themed items from Tuff Gong Worldwide.
Congrats to Skin and Bones for their amazing performance and to all of the finalists for rocking the stage! Special thanks to Joel Madden and Evan Bogart for serving as the night’s judges and to our sponsors Chipotle, IK Multimedia, House of Marley, Tuff Gong Worldwide and I AM MUSICOLOGY!
