Los Angeles - GRAMMY U SoundChecks With Andra Day
By: Emmeline Salazar, GRAMMY U LA Member
Los Angeles GRAMMY U members attended Andra Day’s sound check at the Belasco Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles. Andra Day is a singer-songwriter, GRAMMY-nominated artist for her debut album “Cheers To The Fall”, and is currently on a North American tour.
As members entered into the theatre we were welcomed with music as Andra Day and her band were starting their sound check. Members were treated to two songs, one of them being a new song. After Andra Day finished her first song she welcomed the GRAMMY U members and her pianist Charles Jones mentioned to her that he is a GRAMMY U alum in which she responded “GRAMMYs did you good!”
Andra Day then performed her second song and afterwards walked downstage to sit at the edge to take some questions from members in the audience. She answered questions regarding how she preserves her powerful voice in which she so gracefully demonstrated one of her vocal warmup techniques. She also gave advice to aspiring artists and told them to never compromise who they are. She was very personal with her response to each person.
After the Q&A, GRAMMY U members took a group photo with Andra Day. Although her tour manager had requested for her to go backstage to rest before her show she stayed and took an individual picture with every GRAMMY U member. She was beyond kind to every person she spoke with, giving all her attention and interest to them. Everyone received a poster and signed picture on their way out. It was definitely a treat for all the GRAMMY U members.
