On Thursday, March 9th, eight GRAMMY U members were able to get an exclusive backstage tour of the Buku Music and Arts Festival as they were setting up and preparing for the festival to be held on March 10-11th. Buku is an annual two-day EDM and Hip Hop music festival in New Orleans held at Mardi Gras World. Students were shown around by Reeves Price, VP of Operations for Winter Circle Productions. Reeves toured the students around the festival grounds as they finalized the festival’s set ups. During the tour, students were enthusiastic to see the festival industry in action and were also able to ask Reeves questions and get advice based on his knowledge and personal experience. Students asked about the festival’s brand and marketing, logistical questions on the festival’s organization, creating line-ups, production companies who set up, sound and lighting, and the interaction between the festival and artists who are performing. One of the most important points that Reeve made about festivals is that you have to set yourself up for success and be prepared to fix problems because that is half the job. Students left excited and inspired from this exclusive backstage tour and one on one experience with a festival professional.
