New York - GRAMMY U SoundChecks With The Head And The Heart
By: Rachel Insalaco, GRAMMY U New York Representative
GRAMMY U was granted the unique opportunity to hear The Head and The Heart sound check before their concert at Terminal 5 that night. The sixteen students in attendance were led into the venue at approximately 5:30PM, while the band was busy rehearsing the song “City of Angels” from their latest album Signs of Light. After ensuring that their vocal harmonization and instrumental mixes were perfect, The Head and The Heart ran through another of their new songs, “Your Mother’s Eyes”, before wrapping up their sound check and meeting GRAMMY U members for a Q&A session.
During the Q&A, the band members spoke about how taking a short break from their music helped them to stay fresh and passionate about their art; drummer Tyler Williams compared playing songs over and over to “saying the same word over and over again”, concluding that it “stops making sense after a while”. The band also spoke about the positive experience they had releasing Signs of Light on a major label, mentioning that they were able to retain their creative freedom while having a larger pool of resources to work with.
After taking a group photo at approximately 6:30PM, GRAMMY U members left the venue while The Head and The Heart returned backstage to prepare for that night’s show. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for all students in attendance!
