On Friday, May 12th, members of Philadelphia’s GRAMMY U chapter made their way over to the Trocadero to attend Desiigner’s GRAMMY U SoundCheck. The Brooklyn-based rapper is currently touring in support of his upcoming album, The Life of Desiigner.
While waiting for the event to start, a few members of his team came over to speak with GRAMMY U members. They answered questions from students about touring, how they started their careers, and what it is like to work with someone like Desiigner. Following this, they generously gave all GRAMMY U members a pair of tickets to Desiigner’s show in Philadelphia that night.
Desiigner’s SoundCheck was short and sweet, and afterwards he made his way to the floor and gave GRAMMY U members the opportunity to chat with him. He greeted every GRAMMY U member individually and made sure to take note of his or her name. They talked about anything and everything – from new music, to hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and even darker times in his past such as getting shot. Desiigner’s outgoing personality made GRAMMY U members feel as if they were his long time friends as opposed to fans. Every conversation was fluid and meaningful. In fact, Desiigner even took a listen to a GRAMMY U member’s own music.
To close out the experience, Desiigner invited everyone to the center of the venue for a photo opportunity. He was humble, gracious, and absolutely hilarious – his personality radiated onto everyone around him. Desiigner certainly shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon – his debut album, The Life of Desiigner, is expected to be released later this year via G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam.
