San Francisco - GRAMMY U SoundChecks With Good Charlotte
On Tuesday October 25, 2016, GRAMMY U members from the San Francisco Chapter had the opportunity to listen in on the sound check from Good Charlotte at The Warfield. GRAMMY U members got an in-depth look at what it’s like to be in a touring band, how they used a five-year hiatus after so many years of working nonstop to reconnect with family (and even go to school: bassist Paul Thomas went to UC Berkeley!). They talked about using that time off to reset and develop a fresh approach to their process and business, and their experiences in the industry overall.
The two band leads (and twin brothers) Joel and Benji Madden gave GRAMMY U members their experienced perspective on the management side of the industry as they explained their latest business venture, MDDN, a record label and management firm that they developed to help artists.
Joel currently serves as a Board Member of the Los Angeles Chapter of The Recording Academy, and shared with GRAMMY U members the importance of strengthening community within the music industry. He also shared his support of the Academy and the ways in which our Advocacy efforts and support resources like MusiCares help artists daily.
All of the band members spoke at length about the changing landscape of the music touring industry and the challenges in putting together a tour while remaining profitable. They spoke mostly in regards to how festivals have changed the touring landscape, and the strategies that marketers have to bring together to ensure tickets are selling to tours.
Thanks to Good Charlotte for leaving a lasting impression on the members of the San Francisco GRAMMY U Chapter!
