GRAMMY U Writes With Elijah Blake
While releasing his debut album “Shadows and Diamonds” Def Jam recording artist/songwriter Elijah Blake took the time to give one of our members an exclusive songwriting critique opportunity. GRAMMY U member Joshua Redden, was chosen from over 300 submissions as the winner of our #WriteWithElijah social media contest.
Elijah Blake has worked with some of the industry’s biggest stars including Rihanna, Usher, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Kanye West, Keyshia Cole, Mary J. Blige, Nas, and Alicia Keys. He co-wrote the song “Climax” with Usher, which won a GRAMMY for Best R&B Performance and Rihanna’s “Love Without Tragedy,” that was in the GRAMMY winning album ‘Unapologetic” for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Not to mention is collaborations with Trey Songz for “Jupiter Love,” “Sex Ain’t Better Than Love,” and Rick Ross’s “Presidential.”
In this intimate one-on-one session, Blake was able to critique Redden’s song “Alone At A Party” piece by piece. From the vocals to the reverb, Blake thoughtfully broke down the song to give Redden the quality and the attention he gives any artist, songwriter, producer, or engineer he works with. Laughing and sharing anecdotes, Blake displayed gratitude for those who have given him the opportunity to fulfill his dream, and why he enjoys working with GRAMMY U. “Along in my journey as a songwriter and artist, I want to do what I wish someone would had done for me.”
