New Orleans - GRiZ: A Sync Up/GRAMMY Museum Artist Interview

Date:

Nov 12 2017 - 5:00pm - 6:30pm CST

The funk/EDM producer and performer GRiZ wraps up a tour in New Orleans on Nov. 11, and the Jazz & Heritage Foundation's Sync Up Conference is partnering with the GRAMMY Museum's "A Conversation With" series to present GRiZ in a public interview on Sunday, Nov. 12.

The interview will take place at 5 p.m.
George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center.
Admission is free.

GRiZ, born Grant Kwiecinski, is a 27-year-old independent artist from Southfield, Michigan. After studying saxophone and piano in school and falling in love with funk groups like the Meters, he started making music while a student at Michigan State University – before dropping out to focus on his music career.

He became a DJ and electronic dance music producer, playing shows in the East Lansing area. After releasing his debut album – distributed for free online – in 2011. A remix of the Aerosmith classic rock anthem “Dream On” was picked as a favorite of influential bloggers, which brought GRiZ to the attention of more established EDM acts such as Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Gramatik and Big Gigantic - who invited GRiZ on tours.

His own headlining tours followed, as did several more albums on his own independent label, All Good Records – which releases free streams of tracks by GRiZ and other artists. His records are also available for sale, and his latest release, Good Will Prevail, debuted in the No. 1 position on the electronic music sales charts.

Meanwhile, GRiZ has developed a massive fan base as a touring artist. His shows combine funk and soul provided by himself on sax and a large ensemble of musicians and singers, plus massive electronic beats along with dazzling visual effects and pyrotechnics.

Now with major representation by Red Light Management and the Creative Artists Agency, GRiZ is an extremely successful touring artist – capable of selling out large venues like the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, and headlining big festivals such as Electric Zoo, Electric Forest, TomorrowWorld, Decadence, SnowBall, Lollapalooza and Shambhala.

At the 2015 High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver, GRiZ won first place in the People's Choice Flower category for the strain GRiZ Kush, which he created in collaboration with Native Roots Apothecary.
