Nominee Spotlight: Punch Brothers

GRAMMY Pro caught up with Chris Thile and Noam Pikelny of Punch Brothers backstage at Pilgrimage Music Festival. The mandolinist and banjoist, respectively, spoke about the initial connection that brought them together as a band, their recording process, and their unique approach to improvisation.

Pikelny shared, “It’s more important to serve the song than to serve our own interests to be playing or to be improvising.”

(Punch Brothers are nominated for Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for "Julep" and Best Americana Album for The Phosphorescent Blues)
