March 5 – Los Angeles – Up Close & Personal with Evan Bogart & Emanuel “Eman” Kiriakou
The Recording Academy® Los Angeles Chapter and the Producers & Engineers Wing® hosted an evening with producer/songwriters Evan Bogart (Beyonce, Demi Lovato) and Emanuel “Eman” Kiriakou (Celine Dion, Bridget Mendler) at the Village Studios.  Moderated by A&R executive and executive producer Teresa Labarbera Whites, the conversation covered their career paths, craft, and past and present projects.  Topics included songwriting, how advances in technology have shaped the studio process, and words of advice for up-and-comers. The evening was a unique opportunity for members to be inspired by and learn from these dynamic individuals. 

March 18 – Sonoma, Calif. – P&E Wing Listening Session at Prairie Sun Recording Studios
The Recording Academy San Francisco Chapter hosted a P&E Wing Listening Session at Sonoma County’s Prairie Sun Recording Studios (www.prairiesun.com).  Attendees met for a meet and greet in one of the many studio buildings on the property before host Mark “Mooka” Rennick led the group on a tour explaining the studio’s history and equipment. Highlights included The Waits Room—notable for the two GRAMMY Award®-winning albums tracked there by local music legend Tom Waits, and Studio B, which houses a Neve Custom 80 Series desk originally commissioned for Pete Townsend’s Eel Pie Studios. The group then settled into the Studio A main mix room for a critical listening session with tracks shared by participants including Boby BorisovTim EschlimanHelana FitzgeraldCliff Goldmacher, SF Chapter Trustee Stephen HartJudy KirschnerMichael LindnerMatt Wright, and Tom Menrath, facilitated by SF Chapter P&E Chair Piper Payne.

March 26 – Miami – The Producer’s Forum at Winter Music Conference
The Florida Chapter and the P&E Wing presented The Producer’s Forum at Winter Music Conference, a panel moderated by Florida Chapter Board President and artist/producer/remixer Greg “Stryke” Chin, featuring  GRAMMY®-nominated artist/producer BT, GRAMMY-winning remixer Cedric Gervais, and GRAMMY-nominated remixers Sultan + Ned Shepard. The panelists discussed trends in EDM and offered a glimpse into the technical aspects of their careers, discussing preferred software, gear, and work style in the studio and on stage. A majority of the attendees were artists, producers, and engineers who engaged the panelists on a range of topics during the Q&A portion. Among the guests was Florida Chapter Governor Jimmy Douglass.

March 26 – Boulder, Colo. – P&E Wing Listening Session at eTown Hall Recording Studios
The San Francisco Chapter also hosted a P&E Wing Listening Session at eTown Hall (www.etown.org) in Boulder, Colo. The event kicked off with a special tour of the $7 million facility given by CEO and eTown FounderNick Forster. Facilitated by SF Chapter Vice President Michael Starita and Airshow Mastering Founder and Chief Engineer David Glasser, 16 P&E Wing members provided tracks for playback, followed by discussion and Q&A on creative techniques and execution. Designed to spark growth and creativity by learning from each other about the sounds we hear, the Listening Session program has also turned out to be an opportunity to introduce new music, particularly local music projects. Attendees included Florida Chapter member Vincent Di Pasquale, as well as San Francisco Chapter members Joe MichaelsSteve AvedisAngie Mickle, and Ben Makinen.  New membersStephanie BettmanRobin Rothschild and Anna Frick were also welcomed, and the evening was a resounding success in great new music, networking and building a strong P&E community in Colorado.

Malcolm Harper was in Houston recording the live performances at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (www.hlsr.com), making this his 20th season to engineer, record, and mix for the live TV broadcast. Acts included Brad Paisley, Reba, Usher, Florida Georgia Line, and Zac Brown Band. He was assisted by a team of audio technicians from LD Systems and fellow Texas Chapter Governor and P&E Wing member Danny Jones.
