November 7 – Washington, DC – Pitch & Play (Rockville, Md.)
Members of the Washington, D.C. Chapter’s Producers & Engineers Wing® gathered at Omega Recording Studios for the Pitch & Play Demo Review.

Attendees were grouped by genre with veteran producers and engineers who discussed each project in detail. The genres were Hip Hop and R&B (Philadelphia Chapter President Ivan Barias and D.C. Chapter Governor James  McKinney), Rock and Country (Greg Lukens of Washington Professional Systems and Randy Leroy of Airshow Mastering), EDM and Pop (Chapter Governor Nicolas Laget, Omega Recording Studio owner Edward Peterson, and Andrew Souter) Acoustic Folk (GRAMMY®-winning producer Cathy Fink and GRAMMY-winning engineer and Chapter P&E Wing Committee Co-Chair Pete Reiniger).

The evening was a unique opportunity to be inspired by the Washington area's new generation of talent, make connections and learn about both music production and business. The exchange ranged from technical mixing tips, the recording/production process, approaches to songwriting, music structure and form, to career paths in the music industry.

Special thanks to sponsors Ed Petersen and the Omega staff for graciously hosting us again this year, Greg Lukens at Washington Professional Systems and Chris Evans of AudioDesign Solutions for donating all of the sound equipment, AKG for donating headphones for each of the panelists, and Honest Tea for providing beverages for the reception.
November 18 – Chicago – P&E Wing Workshop with Steven Slate
Producer, engineer, technologist, and manufacturer Steven Slate from Slate Digital visited the Chapter for In The Studio with Steven Slate. Slate spoke to members and guests about his inspirations for entering  the music industry, how he started, and how his hunger for knowledge and understanding led him to develop his line of innovative products. The discussion delved into the theory behind his plug-ins, and he  also demonstrated Slate Audio’s new control surface RAVEN: Multi-touch Interface, with time for the audience to get hands-on with the product. The well-attended event had more people than seats, and audience interaction made the Q&A segment lively and informative. Slate even shared his famous BBQ sauce recipe with attendees! Thanks to Manny Sanchez from I.V. Lab Studios and Jeff Leibovich from Vintage King Audio for hosting the event at I.V. Lab.November 19 – Las Vegas – En La Mezcla!
The P&E Wing, in partnership with The Latin Recording Academy®, held its first ever Latin GRAMMY Week celebration at the Studio at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. More than a hundred producers and engineers and their guests turned out for cocktails and networking at an evening of appreciation for those who work behind the scenes to create great sounding Latin and Brazilian music.  After welcome remarks by P&E Wing Sr. Executive Director Maureen Droney, the ever gracious Gabriel Abaroa, President and CEO of LARAS, spoke warmly about the importance of producers and engineers to the recording community. GRAMMY- and Latin GRAMMY®-winning producer/engineers Rafael Arcaute, Carlos Alvarez and Moogie Canazio served as co-hosts for the event and each spoke from the heart about their careers and the strong bonds between recording professionals that easily surmount both national boundaries and language differences. Thanks to Zoe Thrall, Director of Studio at the Palms and her staff for helping to create a memorable evening, and congratulations to all the producer and engineer Latin GRAMMY recipients and nominees! November 19 – Nashville – Lost In Transaction
The Recording Academy Nashville Chapter, in partnership with the P&E Wing, presented Lost In Transaction, a panel that explored structuring deals, income streams, contracts and budget management for producers and engineers. The event was held at the Country Music Hall of Fame in the beautiful Ford Theater. Nashville Chapter President Jeff Balding and P&E Wing Committee Co-Chair Julian King welcomed attendees and kicked-off the afternoon by introducing journalist/author Dan Daley, who moderated the panel. Panelists included Linda Edell-Howard, Entertainment and New Media Team Leader, Adams & Reese LLP; Alia Fahlborg, EVP, Nettwerk Producer Management; and Charles Sussman, CPA, Sussman & Associates.  Topics covered included a discussion about points versus net revenue percentage in producer/engineer income, letters of direction related to royalties, and tips for effective negotiation.November 21 – Philadelphia – In The Studio – Acoustic Design with John Storyk
The Philadelphia Chapter welcomed architect and acoustician John Storyk to the Inside the Studio series. Storyk’s impressive repertoire of work spanning the past 40 years attracted a crowd that filled the room at Drexel University’s URBN Annex with attendees excited to learn. From GRAMMY U students to industry pros, everyone was intrigued to listen to the man responsible for studio design from Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland to Jay Z’s Roc the Mic.
Philadelphia Chapte P&E Wing Committee Co-Chairs Phil Nicolo and Ryan Schwabe kicked off the evening with welcome remarks. Storyk came prepared to share with a slide presentation loaded with information from the basics of sound and acoustics to his stunning designs. Storyk’s passion for his work was evident and made the discussion interesting for the non-engineer crowd as well. Guests were invited to stay for a networking reception where Storyk continued to answer questions and offer advice.
