February 13 – Nashville – Listen Up! with Harman Professional
Leading members of The Recording Academy Nashville Chapter P&E Wing committee, along with representatives from the HARMAN®Professional brands AKG®, JBL®and Lexicon®, hosted Listen Up, a series of seminars and workshops at Nashville's Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School. The event was aimed at the school's students, who benefit from a world-class on-campus recording studio, opened last year and developed by members of the P&E Wing and others as part of Nashville’s "Music Makes Us" educational initiative.

Following the workshops, Nashville producers and engineers turned out in full force for a celebratory evening featuring a listening event and social mixer. The listening event was an opportunity for the Nashville recording community overall to see in person the project they’d heard so much about as well as to experience JBL’s innovative M2 monitors which are installed in the facility’s control room along with the latest in AKG critical listening headphones. On hand to answer questions and demonstrate products were JBL’s Peter Chaikin and AKG’s Joe Wagoner. Other luminaries included Nashville Chapter President Jeff Balding, P&E Wing Co-Chair Chuck Ainlay and current Nashville Chapter P&E Wing Committee Co-Chairs Julian King and Shannon Sanders.

The casual reception included updates from Philadelphia Chapter Executive Director Mark Schulz, Philadelphia Chapter P&E Wing Committee Co-Chairs Ryan Schwabe and Phil Nicolo, and AES and Academy member Jonathan Orose. Orose discussed the collaborative conversations that the Chapter is having with the recently re-launched AES Chapter in Philadelphia. Schwabe and Nicolo spoke about P&E Wing initiatives, including metadata and the importance for consistency in data capture, and Quality Sound Matters and the emerging consumer interest in HD audio.

February 24 – Nashville – P&E Wing: Listening Session
More than 40 P&E Wing members attended the third installment of the Nashville Chapter’s In The Mix: Listening Session held at Southern Ground Nashville. The beautifully remodeled studio houses a superbly aesthetic tracking room wrapped in cedar with flooring made out of the same type of wood used for Taylor Guitars.

Chapter President Jeff Balding welcomed the attendees and took a few moments to recognize the Nashville Chapter’s 50th Anniversary this year by listing songs and albums that charted 50 years prior (February 1964). P&E Wing Committee Co-Chair Shannon Sanders also addressed the crowd, allaying any anxiety about playing a song for the group by ensuring a judgment-free zone. A diverse group of six producers and engineers played songs ranging from pop to bluegrass and R&B to folk, each followed by Q&A. Nashville Chapter P&E Wing members who shared a song included James Waddell, Joe Palmaccio/Jamie Tate, Gary Paczosa, Leslie Richter, Nathan Chapman andShannon Sanders/Greg Fuqua.
