GRAMMY Pro® Studio Summit: High Resolution Audio

This Studio Summit will inform and educate Producers and Engineers about the benefits of working in High Resolution Audio and why “hi-res” matters to your ears and your career.  An exclusive group of audio experts will discuss how sound quality affects our enjoyment of music, and will dig into technical and business considerations for working in “Hi Res” across an array of genres. Hands-on demonstrations will include critical listening examples and introduce an audience of audio professionals to the importance of incorporating high-resolution audio techniques into their standard operating practices.

The program will be hosted by four-time GRAMMY-winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones and GRAMMY Nominee Michael Romanowski, with special guests Michael Denten, Maureen Droney, Marc Finer of The Digital Entertainment Group, best-selling author and neuroscientist Daniel Levitin, Cookie Marenco, GRAMMY-winning rock engineer Nick Raskulinecz, and Rhonda Wilson of Dolby Labs.

Keynote from Marc Finer, Director of the Digital Entertainment Group, which advocates and promotes entertainment platforms, products, and distribution channels to support the music, movie, television, consumer electronics and IT industries.

11:00AM         Meyer’s Pearson Theatre: Why Hi-Res Audio?
Panel Discussion of the evolution of recording formats, how the brain perceives sound, and what’s behind the “digital” curtain.
Moderated by Michael Romanowski with Leslie Ann Jones, Daniel Levitin, and Rhonda Wilson.

12:30 – 1:30 PM         Lunch Break:

1:30 PM           Meyer’s Pearson Theatre: Hi-Res Workflow and Distribution
Remarks from Producers & Engineers Wing Managing Director Maureen Droney, followed by
Panel discussion on production workflow (realities and possibilities), label distribution, archiving and preservation, and statistics on hi-res downloads and monetization of the format.
Moderated by Leslie Ann Jones with Michael Denten, Nick Raskulinecz, Michael Romanowski, and Cookie Marenco.

3:00 PM           Meyer’s Bear’s Lab Studio  and Commissary: Critical Listening Session
Critical listening demonstration of High Resolution formats, including 16/44.1 and 24 or 32/192 and DSD plus streaming services in dual locations; attendees invited to circulate and listen in both rooms.

4:00 PM           Meyer’s Pearson Theatre: Closing Discussion and Remarks

4:45 PM           Unofficial Post-Event “hangout” at the Missouri Lounge, 2600 San Pablo Ave.
