Texas Chapter Board Spotlight | Chris "Frenchie" Smith
What do you do in the music industry?
I produce signed and unsigned bands, or solo artists.Which often includes arrangement collaboration, engineering, mixing, and filling the void of A&R when it's a group without management or label. I want bands to make the best impact they can and have every opportunity they should. An amazing production can often open doors.
What does being a member of The Recording Academy mean to you?
I take great pride in the lineage of the history of recorded music. Being involved with The Recording Academy means I can participate in the dialogue that artists, songs, and recordings still have tremendous value. Every music fan has at least one life changing memory that has a song associated with that moment, I'm here to insure we continue to create and entertain!
Tell us about the musical influences and inspirations that helped to shape your career.
I've lived in Austin Texas for 27 years. Moving here in 1990 was the best musical and life decision I've ever made. The creative mind set of Austin has greatly influenced me as an artist and producer. Austin taught me to do what my gut tells me and to believe in my ear. I owe my career to the magic of Austin TX.
If you weren’t working in the music industry, what would you be doing?
I've never thought about this question, I'm a musical creature. I only know how to serve my love for music. I wished I could answer this!
